History M.D.B. SMEERTECHNIEK B.V. The company was founded on the first of August 1953 by Mr. L.A. du Bosc.

In the early beginning the main activity was the trade in lubrication equipment, ranging from grease nipples to automatic lubricators.

Within the year it was clear that the customers were not satisfied by buying automatic lubricators; they wanted them installed too. Consequently the activities were enlarged by offering complete lubrication systems.

This activity led to the conclusion that much of the equipment available on the international market (mainly German ) was not able to do the job it was sold for as far as automatic grease lubrication was concerned. Grease lubricators in that time were modified oil lubricators which could not cope with “ modern” viscous greases. The only apparatus designed as such dated from 1927! M.D.B. designed a new type of grease lubricator but, as the yearly output (about 600) seemed too small for commercialising, the lubricator was manufactured by a specialised German company, with which M.D.B. worked in close cooperation.

At the end of the fifties and early sixties there was an enormous demand for automatic oil-lubrication-systems for (partly) unmanned ship’s engine rooms. M.D.B. designed a highly flexible system based on Swedish and German equipment and equiped over 80% of the Dutch merchant fleet and many foreign (Greek, German, British) ships.

The quantities sold of this lubricators augmented strongly and in 1970 M.D.B. decided to commercialise a modified version (V), which was brought out in 1971. As the turnover was considerably increased over the years, this grease lubricator was marketed by M.D.B. itself. Since then many thousands of these lubricators have been sold. In the meantime the reputation of products sold by M.D.B. was such that, for instance in the field of lubrication systems for dredgers, the company held a very strong position.

At the end of the seventies the automotive industry, led in case by Volkswagen, expressed the need for reliable chain-conveyor lubricators. The only company specialised in this field was an American one and their product was only partly suitable. So, M.D.B. designed a (very sophisticated) conveyor lubricator which is built by a German company. Over 400 of these lubricators have been sold to Volkswagen alone. Among the other customers are Ford, Opel and Daimler-Benz.

M.D.B. SMEERTECHNIEK B.V.’s policy has always been the marketing of good and reliable equipment. This can be best illustrated by the fact that the guarantee of lubricators and systems installed by M.D.B. lasts 5000 working hours or 12 months, whichever the longest, regardless the guarantee of the manufacturer.

This is the reason why M.D.B. SMEERTECHNIEK B.V. never wanted to be a contract-bound representative of any manufacturer as this would mean the loss of the liberty to use products of higher quality (if available on the market). In this way it remains possible to combine for instance Swiss pumps with French inversion blocks and Italian distributors to make a perfect 2-line system.

In 1970 Mr. H.F. du Bosc took over the general management of the company, a post he abandoned at the end of 1992 when it was taken over by his son, Mr. E.L.G.H. du Bosc, who is leading the company up to today.
